Portal is connected to a set of mirror-like circular shapes at each end. The installation balances finely between the physical and metaphysical, creating an illusion of moving into infinity, but also a sense of residing in between two voids. This duality creates a narrative with a contemporary and political undertone echoing secularism. It is a duality that invites to an escape into the indefinite, but also to dwell on the possibilities of an undefined space.

Portal is crafted in Erik Jørgensen’s Copenhagen workshop. Together with Snøhetta, the team chose to employ materials such as solid oak, with black stained and upholstered leather and black stiches. The materiality of the piece evokes a sense of refined simplicity that references Erik Jørgensen’s acclaimed chairs. When looking more closely, one will discover a sophisticated installation, combining the best of upholstery, architecture and design.
