Europa City Proposal

Europa City Proposal

Europa City is a large mixed use development on the outskirts of Paris.  The design strives to create a new urbanism, non-existent in the classical urban of central Paris or it’s suburbs.  The triangular geometry is determined by connecting the defining points on the existing site  - The Metro and RER stations, the principle starting out point for the site  with the  station located at the north western corner, and the A1 highway which connects Paris to Lille.

The design will emphasize the existing agricultural nature of the project's location. By integrating agriculture into the very fabric of the development, we will merge the concepts of Agriculture and Culture to create a new peri-urban concept, Agri-Culture.  Agri-Culture embraces all forms of urban agriculture such as allotments, self-picking and bio-fuel production. Local and regional produce, restaurants, shows, leisure and cultural activities form a rich and unique iconography for the new development.

EuropaCity  will become a landmark and cultural icon in the urban Parisian context.  By grasping the entire site as a landscape, tilted towards the new station the monumental iconography of EuropaCity is portrayed to the passengers on the metro, the pedestrians at grade, the inhabitants in the neighbouring district, drivers on the highway and passengers in the airliners.  This monumentality can not be achieved  through verticality, only through its horizontality.
