In September 2018, we unveiled our exhibition design for the auction house Blomqvist for the Oslo Design Fair. The theme of this year’s fair was the concept of the “Moment”. We saw many links to a typical Blomqvist auction in this concept since the auction experience is about seeing an item for a brief moment, only having one chance to obtain it.
By introducing trolleys that are led through the fair by uniformed experts, who replaced items every hour, the stand echoes the sense of urgency that can be experienced during an auction.
The exhibition stand pedestal is made from hand-carved, recycled Styrofoam which was painted in a light shade, bringing associations to an iceberg or curtains hanging heavily to the ground. The floating fabric panels suspended from the ceiling frame the exhibition stand and work as a subtle gate into the stand, generating an ambient atmosphere, highlighting the items on display.
Adding a nostalgic touch to the fair, the trolley is a reimagined as premium versions of the original auction trolleys used by Blomqvist.
